Twenty years of Tarot. Thirty years in technology.

Some people like to call me a Tarot-preneur. I’m still not entirely sure about the epithet, but it’s growing on me.

I resisted it at first because of the growing tendency to attach -preneur to almost any noun: mumpreneur, solopreneur, techpreneur, ecopreneur, infopreneur – you get the idea.

But the more I think about it, the more I think they might have a point.

I’ve been reading Tarot for more than 20 years and working in technology and entrepreneurship for more than 30. During that time I’ve built software companies, launched products, raised investment and worked with founders, executives and leadership teams on difficult strategic decisions.

For much of my life, I thought of those as two quite separate worlds. Increasingly, I don’t.

Entrepreneurs spend a great deal of time making decisions without having all the answers. I know that territory well. Much of my professional life has involved mapping the terrain around difficult decisions, resolving ambiguities, spotting patterns, weighing competing signals and acting in the absence of complete data.

Those are also the people I increasingly read Tarot for. I read for entrepreneurs, professionals and business leaders facing many of the same uncertainties I encounter in my own working life. I also read at tech conferences, where conversations about innovation, risk, opportunity and what comes next are already happening.

Tarot approaches some of those questions from a different direction. It can expose assumptions, surface influences that haven’t been given enough attention, reveal relationships between apparently separate factors and bring possibilities into view that conventional analysis may have missed.

And there is research beginning to explore this territory.

In their 2026 work on entrepreneurial decision-making under uncertainty, Anuradha Shukla and Dr Preshth Bhardwaj of ISBR Business School examine the role of intuition, reflection and symbolic approaches in making sense of uncertain and complex situations. Their work considers archetypes, metaphor and other symbolic frameworks as tools for generating perspectives rather than replacing rational analysis.

Shukla and Bhardwaj have also investigated Tarot itself in a business context. In their 2026 study, Leveraging Tarot for Enhancing Business Resilience in a BANI Environment, they surveyed 36 professionals with experience in business, management and leadership. 91.7% believed intuition had a legitimate place in strategic decision-making, while respondents associated Tarot with reflection, new perspectives and clarity rather than treating it as a replacement for analytical decision-making.

Their proposed framework makes the connection particularly interesting:

Tarot→Intuitive Reflection→Insight Generation→Adaptive Action→Business Resilience

The researchers are careful about what their findings establish. The study is exploratory, based on a small sample, and doesn’t demonstrate that Tarot improves decision-making or organisational resilience. Instead, it points towards an area worth investigating further: Tarot as a reflective decision-support tool that may help people question assumptions, consider different perspectives and think through uncertain or complex situations.

And that’s where my two worlds begin to look much less separate.

Perhaps Tarot-preneur isn’t such a ridiculous word after all.

My readings are practical, structured and grounded in real-world experience. I work with business owners, professionals and individuals facing important decisions who want to understand the wider landscape before deciding what to do.

I don’t tell people what they should do. I interpret what the cards reveal about the situation in front of them: the influences at work, the opportunities and challenges, what may be hidden or overlooked and where a particular course of action appears to be leading.

And yes, sometimes I predict the future.

But prediction isn’t certainty. Tarot can show where a particular path is likely to lead if things continue on their present course. That outcome isn’t set in stone. Circumstances change, people make different choices and free will matters.

I think of a reading as mapping the terrain. I can show you where you are, what surrounds you and where the road you’re travelling appears to lead. You still decide whether to keep travelling in that direction.

Alongside my private practice, I teach Tarot with Green Tara College, where I originally trained. My teaching combines the structure and symbolism of the cards with the intuitive experience of reading them. I help students move beyond memorising individual card meanings and learn to read the cards as an interconnected system.

My students leave with the confidence to read Tarot and to develop their practice to a professional standard.
